Telkom vs Eskom

Lately I have been having an intellectual battle with myself trying to figure out which company I hate more, Telkom (telecoms) or Eskom (electricty). So far its a tie.
Lets start with Telkom. Firstly they rip off the South African people like you wouldnt believe.. I call it rape, you call it what you want. In most contries local calls are free - with telkom not - the calls themselves are not even reasonable.. just like their internet.. it took them years to bring out broadband to this country just because they were too lazy or selfish, i dont really know which one, to upgrade the infrastructure and left us in the dark all these years.. and when they finally do bring out broadband again they rape the people for all they worth. Telkoms broadband internet costs would need to be lowered by 79% to be considered "reasonable" so you can imagine what we are paying. The sole reason behind all these high fees? The sa people are used to getting raped by other countries ( oh yes, telkom is 50% owned by AMERICANS, another pet hate but lets not go there) and they are not really standing up and fighting against it :(
Eskom is another story completely, this is just another typical problem. SA is expanding, as countries seem to do, and therefore the required power needed to supply the country grows with it. However Eskom doesnt feel the need to build more infrastructure to support the new growth. I just recently read an article pasted to me by a friend, in which Eskom is going to be broadcasting colour codes on our national television to warn us about the power usage. Green is all good, orange means turn off non-essential appliences.. What is this bull-shit? Is our country going mad or just simply falling apart?!
As for life, my brother is coming back to SA for a year (from new york), college is ever so demanding with deadlines catching up on me again and projects flowing out my ears. Social side of things, not much happening since there is really no time to do anything these days.
As for I-Advance (my part-owned web-development company), we are in the process of building a new site aimed at providing more information and support. We are also busy on a few projects at the moment.
And with that I will love and leave you - its late and I have run out of things to bitch and moan about.
Until later,
Sex is like a bank account. You put it in, you take it out, you lose interest.

I believe all big corps are raping the people of the world. My last electricity bill had 'delively' charges double my electric charges! I stopped by via blogmad and have voted for your blog. If you have a moment could you please stop by my blog and vote for me and sign my guestbook. I'm new to blogging and I think it's neat to see where people are from. Thanks

Hmmm, it seems this country of ours is in wayo ver its head. As for the shambles of the politics that is our government and their relation to telkom, its a topic that could span many hours of heated debate, resulting in, im sure, one unamimous descision - TELKOM SUCK!
The 40% gvoernment owned telecomunications company could easily hand over tasks that they are too lazy to commit themselves to, to others with some interest in our telecoms issues with one small and thoeretically simple move - nationalise the SAT3 cable... That way, other telecom companies could form and start rolling out their own services, etc... But sadly with no presure from the government(for obvious reasons) and no desire to, i don't see that happening very soon...
As far as i can see, we have one saving grace, go do some research on the EASYy cable that will run from the east coast of South Africa all the way up to india - the bandwidth that it will have available far exceeds that of the SAT3 and the investers are not going to give one company in SA a monopoly of control over it, allowing for much potential and soon after it is launched im sure we will see a plethora of telecom companies offering great broadband deals that will knock Telkom right off their feet and onto their ass in one swift move...
All we can do is sit around and hope and try deal with the rapage til then...

Just wondering why you would build a website optimised for firefox when ie is still the most pervasive browser out there. Ya ya, this comment has nothing to do with Eskom or Telkom. Bite me. Dude, its August. Post already.

IE may be the most used browser still, but their support for css is crap and once they release IE7 final my css woes will be fixed.
