Neotel, previously known as the Second National Operator or SNO, has launched its operations today.
Neotel kicks off its offerings with wholesale international services.
Neotel will most likely expand its operations early next year with voice and broadband offerings to corporate and residential customers.
The Second National Operator was licensed at the end of last year after a drawn out bidding and licensing process.
Neotel aims to offer a variety of services in the fixed line telecoms environment, providing Telkom with its first real competition in this arena.
It is expected that Neotel will capture between 10% and 15% market share from Telkom in its first year of operations.

I cant begin to express how happy I am to hear this news! This is probably the best thing to happen to South Africa... ever. This should be marked down in the history books as the day Telkom had to remove its penis from South Africas ass... and hopefully now Telkom will be the one getting screwed.
The possiblities are going to be endless in terms of broadband.. we'll now have decent speeds and *hopefully* over time this whole capping issue will get thrown out the window. Lets not forget the fact that basic telekom costs should drop making living easier for everybody :D
Check out the SNO's(Neotel) website
If you aren't bound into any rediculous contracts with Telkom.. Go for neotel :D
Site Updates
I've dramatically improved the way bmonkey handles URL's for my blog posts as well as making the WHOLE site w3c compliant as there were a few nagging details that I had yet to get around to.. Also the database queries have been optimized greatly which hopefully should mean the site loads faster. Busy getting around to organising a few more themes for the site aswell. Also improved the comment box somewhat aswell as the site search. - Please let me know if you notice dead links or other problems whilst browsing. Thanks :D

OMFFFG!!!
This info just made my year! Now lets just hope that they don't form some kind of convenience agreement with telkom and rip us off together...
Wishing Neotel and the ppl of SA, all the best for the future of Telecoms in our country!
